 Information

Initial Consultation
For us to get to know each other and see if we can work together. We will go through a questionnaire which I will email you in advance.

This will help me:
  • Understand what you want to achieve;
  • Your current lifestyle – family, social and work commitments. Eating habits and routine.
  • How much time you’re prepared to commit to training
  • Your current and past physical status. Injuries, special circumstances.
At the end of this I will give you my honest thoughts on what you want to achieve. Losing 6 stone in 6 months is not going to happen and I would not agree to helping you. Losing 2 stone in 6 months – 1 pound per week can be done safely and healthily. Running a marathon in 9 months starting from no running is possible for most people with commitment – yes honestly. Or perhaps, I think your goal is not challenging enough in which case I would encourage you to be more ambitious. Simply progressing from where you are now is easy – we just have to find ways to measure the progress to identify your goal.

This initial consultation is free and without obligation for either of us.
Full Fitness Assessment
If we think we have a way forward then I will carry out a full fitness assessment of you: aerobic (how much stamina you have); strength; flexibility; postural (looking for any physical imbalances that may make you susceptible to injuries); body weight and composition (fat). All of this gives us a benchmark of where you’re starting from.

It may seem a little scary to you right now but we have to be able to measure your progress. And don’t be embarrassed, if you were in tip top condition you wouldn’t be here. In fact the worse you are the happier I am because improvements will come faster.

You will receive a comprehensive report of your fitness readiness including comparisons to national statistics for your age group.
Physical and Nutritional Assessment

Based on this assessment and everything else I have learned from you I will design a physical and nutritional programme for you.

Don’t worry no boiled, skinned chicken and salad for breakfast (one of my past clients did this for 3 months on the advice of her personal trainer and gained weight) and all of your training will be within your capabilities and time resource. Your training will be progressive which means that what you find it challenging but doable – in month 3 you will be doing things that you could not have imagined doing in month 1 and the month 1 challenges will now seem like gentle warm ups.

And we’ll try and bias it towards the things you like doing. Your nutrition will be healthy and practical.

The plan

I will talk you through the plan and suggest ways for you to implement it. Some people will prefer more one to one sessions, others prefer minimal personal input from me and just get on with it.

Whatever you choose. We will agree a way for you to report to me every couple of days – usually by email, text or phone call. This part is crucial. In order for you to succeed you have to feel accountable. Just as importantly I can detect any problems early on.

Personal sessions
However much personal training you choose from me we will need to have a personal session at least once a week to begin with where I can teach you techniques and monitor your progress first hand. For a complete gym and exercise novice this will be more frequent because I have to be sure that your technique is good and safe.

All our one to one sessions are undertaken in the Personalised Coaching gym (off Tickhill Road) – they are all private with no one else in the gym.
Assessments

Every 4 weeks I will carry out assessments on you to measure your progress. Your programme will then be amended keeping your overall goal in mind.

Choose the level of involvement

Within reason you can choose the level of involvement from me. Some personalities prefer to work alone whilst others need constant motivation and tuition – I don’t mind.

Equipment advice

I’m happy to advise you on equipment (training shoes, training clothes, swim equipment, bike gear, etc).

What do YOU want to achieve?
This is PERSONALISED Coaching. If the challenge of your life is to run The London Marathon – I can get you in, train you and even run it with you. If you want to get slimmer to get into that dress – I can help you with the first part.

If you want to enter a race I can advise you on the practicalities. If you want to try the Doncaster weekly Park Run – I can do it with you.

It’s all about you being committed to your goal in any way you choose.
